Artist Statement

Much of my art is meant to convey some narrative idea with content and themes that I am personally interested in or feel need to be addressed. To this end, nearly all my ideas contain some elements of authentic natural history or speculative evolution, whether it be fantasy or science fiction, typically as either set dressing or part of the narrative.  This is the case with my current primary focus, Da’un of Time.

This is a series concept which takes the premise of series like those I had enjoyed on PBS or Discovery Kids in the 90’s through early 2000’s, while putting a greater focus on setting, characters, and themes than education- in this case the legacy of colonialism and the point where our interactions with animals and how we treat each other intersect. The animation and accompanying artwork are digital, but with a traditional aesthetic to make it resemble 90’s animation. The series follows hominid girl, Da’un, and her adoptive father, Alex, a sapient tyrannosaur, living in a future world heavily impacted by the effects of climate change and commercialized time travel.
