Artist Statement

Most of my artwork is based around subjects that I find interesting, like humanity being in everyone, the everlasting possibility of utopia, humor, esoteric and wild settings, and avian. A lot of my work is specialized in these areas. My most recent project ‘Abawkcalypse’ (A-Bawk-call-ipse), has these elements.

My goal with Abawkcalypse was to create a playable animation, following the footsteps of Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Lair. And much like Dragon’s Lair, Abawkcalypse is full motion animation, and is fast paced, with the story taking a back seat to the action. It is complete and fully watchable in Vimeo; however, a playable version can be found in the Vimeo description.

Biography

Matthew Mata is an artist, raised and educated in Illinois. He developed an interest in animation while watching shows, films, books, and content creators online. Mata finds the ability to captivate an audience, while leaving them with something to think about by the end of it intriguing and hopes to do this with his media.

He earned his Associates Degree in College of Lake County, and his Bachelor’s degree in Northern Illinois University. Mata plans to continue his education in 2021 by going after his Master’s degree. Mata’s plans are to get a career in academia, to teach animation in higher education. His art spans 2D animation, 3D modeling, video editing, photography, and acting. All intertwine into one another, allowing Mata to develop hybrid animations.
