April White

BFA, Painting

Artist Statement

My works use autobiographical references and story-telling in combination with objects and everyday scenes to create a juxtaposition of worlds that examine the psychological effects environments have on individuals. I like to explore the idea that we are a kind of environment onto ourselves through the power of the mind and what surrounds us. I want to invoke a desire to interpret from my viewers. To do this I create an intersection of disproportionate settings, innocents and danger. What I consider in my process is the meaning of the objects depending on who the interpreted holder is, setting, the places from which our identities grow and what is considered age appropriate.
