Artist Statement
My intention is to focus on non-normative, alternative stories and characters. I want to create content where people can find themselves and be comfortable in their identity and whatever interests they decide to pursue. Self-individualization and self identity are themes I feel drawn to because those are the issues I have, and am still struggling with. Pulling from my own experience living as an LGBT+ person, I strive to put my characters in the same shoes; living every day life as a person that just happens to be LGBT. Stories of queer people often have tragic endings, whereas I want to portray the simple experience of existing within my illustrative work. My inspiration comes mostly from children’s cartoons, with bold lines, colours, and shape, but my intention is to expand that style to be for a wider audience, to make content for adults. I enjoy embracing the blurred line between traditional and the digital mediums, and the combination between the two is a place I am eager to continue to explore.
